Productive morning routines help set the momentum for your day — we’ll be talking all about that in this blog post!
The Magic of Mornings
I find mornings to be so special because they allow us the opportunity to start the day off on the right foot. Productive morning routines are crucial because they ensure we’re partaking in actions that set us up for success.
In this blog post, I’ve listed 7 ideas that each serve as individual productive morning routines. Test them out and see what feels good in your mornings!
PRODUCTIVE MORNING ROUTINES
1. Wake up a little bit early.
Waking up a tad earlier than your normal wake time will allow you to have more time for yourself in the morning. This extra time will naturally allow you to be productive because you’ll be able to get more done! I know how tempting it is to hit the snooze button, but you’ll break that habit once you see how much you can achieve with those precious minutes.
2. Freshen up first thing.
As soon as you get out of bed, head to your bathroom to tend to your oral hygiene and wash your face. These two actions are instant pick-me-ups and will have you feeling fresh and ready to face the morning.
Brushing my teeth straight away signifies to me that I’ve committed to getting up and starting my day. I also like to get rid of morning breath with the help of my tongue scraper and favorite mouthwash.
When it comes to washing your face, this can be as simple as just splashing your face with cold water to wake up, especially if you’re a morning shower type of person. Since I shower at night and try to get outside in the mornings, I cleanse my face and apply all my skincare, including SPF.
3. Drink water ASAP.
If you hydrate first thing in the morning, and you’ll feel so much better. Plus, by doing this, you’ll be more likely to continue drinking water throughout the day. I love filling up a water cup with lots of ice and filtered water from my Brita tank. I also recommend you drink water before any sipping on a caffeinated beverage to prevent shakiness!
4. Establish quiet time for yourself.
Some people like to hit the ground running as soon as they wake up, but some of us need a bit of time to truly wake up. Establishing some quiet time as a productive morning routine will help you mentally prepare for the day.
For me, I like to sit in my cozy reading nook while still in my PJs, all snuggled up with a blanket and my iced water. I like to pray, read a passage from this book, fill out my Five Minute Journal, update my self-care planner, and review my to-do list for the day. It sounds like a LOT of stuff, but I truly love doing it all because it aligns me for the day. I give myself a good 45 minutes to enjoy my favorite part of the morning.
When it comes to creating your quiet time, think about the activities that will give you center and focus. Some other ideas include meditating, enjoying a cup of coffee, or practicing a yoga flow.
5. Get some movement in.
Whether you get your full workout done at the gym or just take a stroll around the neighborhood, it is so good to get moving in the morning. Why? Because your day might get super busy and you won’t be able to have time to exercise. Getting it done right away ensures you check off this box. Plus, there’s no better way to wake up your physical body than by getting your blood pumping!
6. Eat a filling breakfast.
Breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day because it’s the first food you’re eating. You need to make sure it’s filling and nutritious! I can say for sure I notice a huge difference in my quality of eating for the day depending on what I had for breakfast. If all I eat is a sugary granola bar, my hunger is out of control for the rest of the day. Something packed with protein on the other hand, such as a Greek yogurt bowl, keeps my blood sugar and cravings in check for the rest of the day. If you’re prone to skipping breakfast altogether, I highly recommend meal prepping some easy options you can grab out of the fridge.
7. Write (or review) your to-do list.
Writing stuff down helps to keep you accountable and remember the things you need to accomplish. You will feel so satisfied when you can check something off your list as the day goes on! If you’re like me, you might like to write your to-do list for the next day at night as a way to mentally unload before sleeping. Then when the new day actually comes, you’re able to review your plans and make any tweaks necessary.
