A fall night routine is in order once the autumn months roll around. Keep on reading to find out how to create your very own!
During the fall time, we naturally start to take things slow. The vibrancy of summer is a thing of the past — instead, we begin to turn inward and want to partake in the coziness of the cooler season. A fall night routine can help you to stay present and truly enjoy your autumn evenings. Below are five ideas you should consider adding to your own fall night routine.
FALL NIGHT ROUTINE IDEAS
Implement a chill tidying session.
After you’ve finished eating dinner or put your kids to bed for the night, take some time to reset your home. Rather than rush through this process, make a moment out of it. Put on a fall-inspired playlist (or whatever type of music that you find relaxing) and be intentional and mindful as you wash the dishes and clean the counters. Since we tend to spend more time indoors during these cooler months, prioritizing a clean environment is a must.
Indulge in some fall-inspired skincare.
Skincare is a necessity all year round, but why not pay homage to autumn by trying out some new fall-inspired products? Switch to a fall-scented body wash or splurge on a face mask with pumpkin in it. I usually prefer lavender-scented products for the spring and summer but opt for warmer scents like vanilla and cinnamon during the colder seasons.
Choose cozy lighting.
Nix your overhead lights! These “big” lights tend to be brighter and more stimulating than the light that comes from lamps and candles. Nothing can achieve that cozy feeling better than warm, inviting lighting. This is also the time to stop watching TV and using devices that emit blue light.
Opt for warmer PJs.
Ditch your tank tops and shorts for PJ sets with long sleeves and pants instead. Even if you’re a warm sleeper, you should consider lounging around in warmer PJs while you’re going about your fall night routine. This is definitely the time to indulge in some cozy comfort!
Read in bed.
You might already have a nightly reading routine in bed, but if you don’t, you seriously need to consider implementing this. There’s no cozier place than your bed, so you should fully embrace this fact during the fall. Snuggle up in your sheets up to an hour before your designated bedtime with a good book.
For a little real life inspiration, here’s what my ideal fall night routine looks like:
MY FALL NIGHT ROUTINE
- Tidy up after dinner. My husband and I do our best to get around to our nightly tidying session as soon as we’re done eating dinner. We like to put on some calming instrumental music as we get our chores done. One person will usually wash the dishes and load the dishwasher while the other goes around and does a bunch of smaller tasks. Said tasks usually include wiping down tray tables and putting them away, closing the blinds and curtains, cleaning the stovetop, wiping down the counters, and putting away ingredients and any other clutter.
- Change over to cozy lighting in the house. Once the chores are done, so is the need for using our big overhead lights! I like to go around the house and put on a few select lamps, and maybe even light a few candles. In general, I like to keep the lighting pretty low as we enter the evening hours to prevent being overstimulated.
- Brush teeth and do skincare routine. I like to do my nighttime dental care as soon as possible after dinner so I’m not tempted to keep eating. Once that’s done, I remove my makeup, wash my face, and apply all my skincare products. During the fall, I like to add in this pumpkin mask by Summer Fridays into my rotation!
- Change into PJs. Nothing makes me feel cozier than slipping into a pair of warm PJs. This long sleeve bamboo pajama set by Cozy Earth is absolutely phenomenal. The powder blue color is my favorite!
- Chill time. After all my nightly primping is complete, it’s time to chill out! I usually like to lounge on my couch watching some more TV while putzing around on my laptop doing some work. Other nights, Chris and I like to play cards or board games. No matter what we end up doing, this relaxing time is something we always look forward to!
- Go up to bed an hour early. In the fall time, I like to spend as much time cozied up in bed as possible. I like going to our room at least an hour early so I can enjoy a nice amount of reading time! We have a TV in our room too, so I like to turn on a reading ambience video like this one in the background to add to the cozy mood.
- Lights out by 11pm. I like to wake up at 7am during the fall months, so I aim to be asleep around 11pm in order to achieve my 8 hours of sleep!
