Are you in school, looking for a daily routine schedule for students? If so, you’re in the right place!
Being a student isn’t easy. With there being stiff competition to get into colleges and a tough job market these days, doing well in school is a necessity if you want to succeed. But how can you get it all done? It’s not just your classes and assignments you have to worry about — there are extracurricular activities, jobs, family responsibilities, taking care of yourself mentally and physically, hanging out with friends, etc. It seems like there’s always way too much to do. This 7-step daily routine schedule for students outlines the best way to set up your days so you are able to do it all. It’s completely customizable and works for students of all ages, from middle school to post-grad college.
DAILY ROUTINE SCHEDULE FOR STUDENTS
1. Ensure a good start to the day. Whatever this means to you, I highly recommend the following:
- Wake up at the same time each day. (Yes, even if your schedule varies, college students!)
- Get fully ready for the day. Shower or wash your face, apply some skincare, fix your hair, put on an outfit that makes you feel good, etc. You’ll be able to face the day better when you take the time to tend to your appearance.
- Eat a high-protein breakfast. Protein is the macronutrient that sticks by us the most. If you prioritize it in the first meal of the day, you’ll have sustained energy and focus until lunch. Go full eggs and bacon or opt for a quick protein bar (these ones are my fave!).
- Check your planner and bag before you head out the door. Scan over your schedule and to-do list to jog your memory and mentally prepare for the day. Also make sure you have everything you need for the day (ex. your violin if it’s band class day.)
2. Go to all your classes. Unless you have a legitimate reason like a physical illness or family emergency, commit to showing up to all your classes. Trust me — I’ve battled with being too tired or just not feeling like going, but if you push through those feelings, you’ll benefit in the end. And if you end up missing, be sure to let your teacher or professor know and get notes from a classmate so you can catch up as soon as possible.
3. Make use of your free time. Have study hall? A few hours between classes? Make use of this time! As tempting as it might be to fill up this time with Netflix or hanging out with friends, try to knock out some homework or catch up on reading instead. Why? You’re likely to have more energy in the middle of the day, and the more you can take off your plate for later in the evening, the better!
4. Eat throughout the day. Probably the biggest no-brainer here, but it’s still important to note. Skipping meals leads to blood sugar crashes, causing you to feel downright lousy. If you aren’t fueling yourself properly, you’re not setting yourself up for success. If you struggle to eat three meals a day, make sure to keep a stash of snacks on hand.
5. Block off a chunk of time at night for homework and assignments. Commit to completing whatever you can in that designated amount of time and then stop at the cut off. To make this flow as effortlessly as possible, I recommend completing your homework/assignments in chronological order of your classes. If you complete everything and have left over time, use it to study, review notes or get started on a project that’s far off in the future. On the other hand, if you still have tons to do after your time is up, step back and take a moment to assess the situation: Is there anything you can put off until tomorrow’s study hall? Can you sacrifice some of your weekend time to make sure you get sleep now? If none of that is possible, be sure to take a small break before you resume working.
6. Make time for prep and self-care. When you’ve wrapped up for the day, there are two more areas to address before hitting the hay. Take a minute to update your planner, check your schedule and pack your bag for the next day. Once that’s all done, it’s time to focus on you and your self-care again. Whether you just brush your teeth and wash your face or have an evening shower with an extensive skincare routine, be sure to tend to your physical health. Some of the best ways to wind down are via journaling, reading a fiction book for fun or bingeing on your comfort show.
7. Prioritize sleep! For real! As tempting as it sounds to stay up and scroll on your phone or watch TV all night, you can’t get back those missed hours of sleep. You’ve probably heard it a million times before, but sleep is so important. It gives you the energy you need to face the day and helps you to retain all the information you’ve been learning, too. If you struggle sleeping at night and have the opportunity to nap during the day — do it!

Being a student is a full-time job. While there are countless moments where it feels completely overwhelming and draining, you can achieve success and chase your dreams as long as you keep yourself accountable and on track with a solid daily routine schedule.
