In this blog post, you will learn all about the benefits of routine.
You’ve probably heard about or seen a lot of content about routines lately — this is because people are realizing all the amazing benefits they offer, and we are going to explore exactly that! Just so we’re on the same page, let’s define what a routine is. To put it simply, a routine is a set schedule of habits that you follow on a regular basis. There are all sorts of routines you can have, like one for your mornings or even for your workouts. Despite knowing all of this, you still might be wondering what the commotion is all about.
Here’s the deal: When you have routines in your life, you invite positivity into your life. They allow you to have or experience structure, control, productivity, motivation, success and happiness. That all sounds great, right? But before we explore those attributes more, let’s take a look at what life can be like without routines.
Life Without Routine
So what can life look like in the absence of routines? Here are some possibilities:
- You’re always rushing. Life seems to always be going on 5x speed. You constantly have to cut corners to get stuff done.
- You’re late to everything. Despite your best efforts, you always find yourself late to your commitments by a few minutes (and let’s be honest… even close to an hour sometimes.)
- You’re overcommitted. Speaking of commitments, you have way too many of them. Your schedule is beyond capacity. You can’t possibly fit one more thing in, yet you find yourself saying “yes” to everything everybody asks of you anyway.
- You procrastinate a lot. Most days, it all feels like too much. You’re extremely overwhelmed to the point that you put things on the back burner until they absolutely have to be done, or even worse, just ignore them altogether. This creates a vicious cycle of dread, which is not fun to be in.
- You’re unhappy. All of this rushing around and procrastinating takes a toll on your physical and mental well-being. You want things to change so badly but you don’t even know where to start.
If any of the above resonates with you, you should consider creating some routines in your life. Be sure to check out my blog post Building A Routine | The 5 Best Steps For Success — it takes you through the step-by-step process on how to build your very own dream routine. Before you even start though, it’s really important that you understand the benefits of routine in general.
The Benefits of Routine
Listed below are the seven great attributes of routine. Here’s what they can bring to your life:
- Structure. Building a routine is akin to building a house, and you’re the builder. You construct the bones of it and get to add all the cosmetic details later on. You get to think about the things you need to include in your routine and then you get to make it look how you want. And when you have structure in your life, you also get to have a sense of…
- Control. Once you’ve decided upon a routine and start following it, you’ll always know what’s coming next. When it feels like there are so many things in life that just don’t go the way you think they will, you can still have some semblance of control by way of having your routines. No matter how your day goes, you’ll always have your schedule and habits to fall back on so you can still do what you need to despite external forces or how you’re feeling.
- Reliability (on yourself!). Another huge reason why routines are great is because they can help you to stay accountable with your goals. By repeating your routines, they’ll become second nature to you. Eventually, you won’t even have to try to convince yourself to wake up early or study as soon as you get home from school — you’ll just find yourself doing it! It’s a great feeling to know that you can rely on yourself no matter what.
- Productivity. One of the main reasons people want to have routine in their lives is so that they can get all of their stuff done in the most efficient manner possible. When you have a sense of order in your life, you won’t waste time trying to play catch up or decide what tasks on your to-do list need to be pushed off — you’ll be able to get it ALL done.
- Motivation. The most important part of a routine is the why. When you are planning out any routine, there is a reason or end goal for doing so. What is the why behind making a workout routine? It’s most likely because you have an end goal of weight loss or wanting to build muscle. When you continuously follow your routine and check off each step, it gives you a sense of accomplishment that motivates you to keep going.
- Success. When you find the routine that works for you, you will ultimately find success. Whether it means you reward yourself for hitting a milestone or just experience the simple satisfaction of finishing your to-do list at the end of each day, routine allows you to experience positive reinforcement on a constant basis.
- Happiness: Yes, happiness! You will bask in the feeling each and every one of us are always trying to achieve on some level. No matter what routine you’re following, it always involves some sort of self-improvement, allowing for you to be the best, happiest version of yourself.
Who doesn’t want to achieve all their goals and dreams with ease? It’s time you give yourself that gift… Are you routine ready? 😉
